A Bear Called Paddington (Goodreads Book Review)

Hello Everyone,

Having previously reviewed the picture book version of Michael Bond’s classic story about Paddington, I decided to re-read the original chapter book. Below is my Goodreads review.

A Bear Called Paddington (Paddington, #1)A Bear Called Paddington by Michael Bond
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

If you meet a bear from Darkest Peru in a London tube station with a suitcase and hat who has a tag around his neck asking someone to look after him, what would you do? Are you like Mrs. Brown and want to take him home? If so, find out what happens when a polite and curious bear, christened Paddington, joins the Brown family and their housekeeper. What could go wrong when Paddington tries to take a bath? Plenty! Have lots of marmalade on hand, because Paddington will move right into your heart!

Enthusiastically,

Paddington: Here and Now (Goodreads Book Review)

Hello Everyone,

I find it exciting that a new chapter book about Paddington was published in 2010 by HarperCollins. Below is my Goodreads review of the twelfth installment featuring the dear bear from Darkest Peru.

Paddington: Here and Now (Paddington, #12)Paddington: Here and Now by Michael Bond
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Paddington is still living with the Brown family in London and getting into the same scrapes as usual because he takes things literally, is sometimes too friendly and trusting, and has a hard time saying no to things he doesn’t want to or shouldn’t do. For instance, who else would get stuck with the job of coating neighbor Mr. Curry’s pipes with burglar paint or sign a piano tour contract or convince the police he drives a car without a license? Only adorable and wonderful Paddington Brown! When his long-lost uncle makes a surprise appearance, will Paddington go with him to travel the world?

Paddington (Goodreads Review)

Hello Everyone,

I recently stumbled upon a beautiful picture book version of Michael Bond’s A Bear Called Paddington when wandering in my local Barnes & Noble. Below is the review of this delightful retelling for young readers I posted on Goodreads.

PaddingtonPaddington by Michael Bond
My rating: 5 of 5 stars

Awaiting their daughter’s arrival, Mr. and Mrs. Brown meet a lonely and polite bear, who was a stowaway on a ship from Darkest Peru to London. They decide he cannot be left in the train station, since he is wearing a tag which reads “Please take care of this bear.” The Browns promptly name him Paddington and take him home to live on Windsor Gardens, where he meets their children, Judy and Johnathon, and housekeeper, Mrs. Bird. After a near-catastrophe in the bathroom, Paddington tells the Browns and Mrs. Bird about his adventures traveling along from Darkest Peru, while eating a marmalade sandwich and promptly falls asleep.

This adorable abbreviation of Michael Bond’s beloved A Bear Called Paddington introduces the charming bear from Darkest Peru to a new generation of readers. Lovely illustrations accompany the text following closely to Bond’s original story. There are several additions in this picture book series about Paddington which will delight young and old alike as they share in the adventures of Paddington and the Brown family.

Enthusiastically,

Ms. Tyler
